One thing that you should know about newborn baby photography is the fact that this is not exactly the kind of niche that most of the professional photographers out there have planned out to be in. However, this is something that they have gone ahead and managed to specialize themselves in at the end of the day because of the fact that it is something that the clients are always asking for or are always looking for. Even if you may already have a certain kind of niche, it does not mean that you should stick to that or that you should just go ahead and isolate yourself to that particular niche all throughout the duration of your career. The more you diversify your skills and your specialties, the better things will turn out for you. Every now and then, your clients will be asking you if you can also go ahead and do a little bit of newborn baby photography on the side. This is a kind of opportunity for revenue that you cannot turn down as a professional photographer. As much as possible, you should try to go out of your way to constantly expand your horizons.
Time the newborn baby photography shoot strategically.
You need to make sure that when it all comes down to it, you schedule the shoot accordingly. The first ten days in the life of a newborn baby are usually the best days for you to go ahead and set up the photo shoot in. Talk to the parents ahead of time. Some of the parents out there go to the extent of even planning the newborn baby photography before the baby is even born. The earlier that you plan things out in advance, the better things will turn out to be in the long run. It is important that you go ahead and shoot within the first ten days of the baby’s life because this is the phase wherein the baby is still pretty “moldable”. It means that you will be able to go ahead and shoot pictures of the newborn baby in whatever kind of pose you would want to pose him in without coming across too many objections and violent reactions. This is a really good opportunity for you to play around with poses and the like.
Use natural light whenever you can in newborn baby photography.
Newborn babies tend to have extra sensitive eyes because they have not really grown all that accustomed just yet to harsh lighting. If you can make do with natural light, then you should try to opt for it as much as you possibly can. Try not to use flash photography unless you absolutely can. Flash photography is something that tends to startle people. The contrasts can be a little too much for newborn babies and more than that, it can disturb the baby if he is sleeping or if he is about to sleep and you don’t have to be an experienced parent to know that it’s never a good idea to disturb a sleeping baby.
