Stay calm and grounded during the wedding photography session.
If you are nervous when it comes to the aspect of having to cover a full scale wedding photography event, then imagine how the bride and groom must be feeling being at the center of it all. A lot of experts in wedding photography rely on routine and a well planned game plan to help keep them focused on things and so that they are not thrown off of their game. Find your inner “zen” during the actual wedding day and make sure that you keep your wits together as much as possible. The last thing that you want to end up doing is to pass off all of your nervous energy vibes to the couple who is about to be wed. Talk a little slower than you normally would. Fast speech tends to denote nervousness and being a tad bit unsure and shaky and that is something that you should definitely avoid at all costs. Try to pace yourself as well. If you feel as if things are starting to move faster than usual, do not allow yourself to be carried away. Stay firmly grounded as much as possible and never let your eyes leave the prize.
Take the time to talk to the administering priest or pastor during the wedding photography shoot.
Different churches or religions have their own specific practices and that is something that you will need to prepare a lot for at the end of the day. Take the time out of your day to talk to the head of the church or to whoever will be initiating the wedding ceremony. There are some churches who will not allow the wedding photographer to be right next to the altar while the bride and groom are exchanging their vows so that is one thing for you to think about when it all comes down to it.
Learn how to manipulate the use of natural light.
Natural light is one of the best things that you can ever bring into the composition of your photos. It is something that requires a certain amount of skill to manipulate to work for your advantage though. There is no shortcut when it comes to mastering the use of natural light. It is one of those things that you will have to learn by doing. Take your camera with you everyday even during those days when you just do not feel like it. This is something that you will have to really constantly work on until you are able to really know the ins and outs of it like pretty much the back of your hand.
Prepare for bad weather.
There is no such thing as being too over prepared. One of these things will have to include bad weather. This is something that can prove to be particularly handy during outdoor wedding photography shoots. Bring a couple or so of umbrellas that you can use against the rain and double up as reflectors as well.
